Week 2
This week I had the experience of putting together a design business proposal. It consisted of a lot of design strategy. We had to map out everything we thought would do in the design process, make an educated guess at how long that would take and do some math to see how much it would cost. We added in an extra 30% of hours to account for extra time we might run into. It's always better to slightly over guess your hours, that way the client is happy if the actual total cost of the project ends up being less. I put together a power-point on google to present it to the client. I took some screen shots of pieces of our actual document and put them on the slide-show. It's always good to break up team documents and present them in a way that'll be easier for the client to understand. I also put profile of our team members on the document. It's a good idea to include this to build trust on the client's side. Hiring free-lancers can seem a bit risky but if the client can see your education and previous work experience they'll feel more confident in choosing you to work on their project.
It was a process going through the project and mapping out the strategy. I did some preliminary work, which I detailed in my post last week, building out wireframes and doing a little bit of domain research. That helped a lot because it gave me an idea of how much work still needed to be done, though I know I'll probably run into a few problems I don't expect. I decided I would still want to do a bit more in the competitive analysis area, I want to build out some personas, created a more detailed site map that includes onboarding, finish wireframing, then move into the UI which will include style tiles, high fidelity mock-ups and lastly a prototype. The PM said she'd help me makes sure that my work was ready to pass off to the developer. It was helpful to have a little experience from school to help estimate how long all of this will take!
